MARGAO: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha came down heavily on the BJP government’s performance over the last five years and also questioned the State’s handling of the controversial Bhumiputra bill and accused the government of not being clear about status of the bill. Pointing out that the public had opposed tooth and nail, the MP urged the government to drop the bill completely.
Sardinha also opposed the government’s plans to form new ‘authorities’ under the forest department and said the existing system should be retained as it is. Instead he asked the government to check if they have really carried out tree plantation drives as stated and if earlier drives had been successful or not. He called on the government to increase the forest area too.
He also called on the government to release subsidies to farmers quickly to help the agriculture sector and questioned why the Sanjivani Sugar Factory is being shut.
He also demanded that Goa Meat Complex be opened and that the views of the minority community be taken into consideration and suggested how this could be done without hurting anyone’s sentiments. He claimed that changes need to be done with the State’s Animal Husbandry department as well, he questioned the delay in completion of National Highways.
