CALANGUTE: Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira has lodged a police complaint against three named individuals and 800 unknown individuals for rioting and causing damage to the panchayat office and two cars. The complaint, filed with the Calangute police, named Sudesh Naikar, Matkar, Prakash Naik, and 800 unidentified Shivpremis as responsible for the destruction of the panchayat office and the vehicles in the vicinity.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when a large mob of Shivpremis gathered at the panchayat office, brandishing saffron flags adorned with images of Chhatrapati Shivaji. The mob protested against the panchayat’s decision to remove a recently installed statue of the king.
Calangute Police Inspector Paresh Naik confirmed receiving the complaint and assured that an inquiry would be conducted, and appropriate action taken.
