CANACONA: Loliem-Polem sarpanch Ajay Lolienkar along with the panchas cleared the garbage strewn near the roadside in all 9 wards of the panchayat on Monday.
Lolienkar said he was pained to see the garbage scattered mainly by the roadside.
“As the monsoon is fast approaching, the other panchas and I decided to do the job without spending any amount from the panchayat funds. Panchas and villagers voluntarily contributed their share both in terms of man power hours and money, and whatever were the shortcomings I contributed”, said Lolienkar.
More than 200 bags of mostly synthetic waste was collected. Those who participated in the cleanliness drive were panchas Nishant Prabhudesai, Shailesh Pagi, Jessica Corte, Nayan Bandekar, Sachin Naik, Bushan Prabhugaonkar, Anoop Kudtarkar and Alfonsa Araujo.
Vishant Prabhu, a social activist appreciated the work done by the elected members, which changed the look of the village from an eyesore to an alluring sight.
