PANJIM: Meetings to elect new sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas of 186 village panchayats will be held on Monday, August 22. The panchayats elections were held on August 10.
The Directorate of Panchayat has issued an order stating that the first meeting of the newly elected panchayat members of respective village panchayats has been convened on August 22. Earlier, the meeting was scheduled for August 20 but later changed to August 22.
The State government has already reserved 126 posts of sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas for women members as per the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994. All these posts have been reserved as per the rotation policy.
In all, 62 posts of sarpanchas are reserved for women while in 64 village panchayats, deputy sarpanchas would be women.
Meanwhile, the Goa State Election Commission (SEC) has lifted the Model Code of Conduct which was in force for the general panchayat elections since July 16.
