Police investigation into criminal cases came to the fore yet again after Curchorem MLA Shyam Satardekar pointed out the Crime Branch had failed to file a chargesheet in the Mariano Mascarenhas attempt to murder case even after three years. Mariano was shot in a bar at Xelvona on February 16, 2006.
Former Xelvona Panch Mariano was against the dust pollution in his area and had raised a banner of revolt.
Satardekar raised the issue in the House on Thursday questioning whether it takes three years to file a chargesheet. “There is something wrong. Looks like some politics is involved somewhere,” he stated.
He said there has been no investigation absolutely even after the weapon used to shoot Mariano was found.
