SATTARI: Demanding full ownership rights with regards to Alvara, Kumeri and forest land, farmers from Sattari taluka on Sunday extended their full support to Melauli villagers in their opposition to the proposed IIT project in the village.

Senior citizens, farmers and other well known persons from the taluka held a special meeting on land ownership rights with regards to Alvara, Kumeri and forest land. Around 200 villagers were present for meeting which was held in the Sateri Temple premises at Velus.

“We don’t want Class two ownership rights of Alvara land, we want Class one ownership rights. It’s our ancestral land and we have the full ownership rights. We demand that the Government give Class one ownership rights to us,” Adv Ganpat Gaonkar demanded.

“The first land survey in 1972 was a huge blunder. At that time the Land Record Department had not informed the villagers,” claimed Dashrath Mandrekar.

“Class one ownership is the full ownership right and the Class two is conditional ownership right. In class two, the Government is the real owner and not people. If the people don’t have full ownership rights then what is the use of giving the ownership rights to us, all rights will be with the Government,” said Rajesh Gaonkar.
