PANJIM: In what seems to be a bigger cricket betting syndicate operating in Goa, the State Police busted yet another IPL betting racket at Candolim – third case in three days.

The Calangute police, late Saturday night, swooped down on a hideout at Candolim and arrested three persons betting during the cricket match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Bhanu P, aged 21 years, Raju Rao, 34 years and Shahi Kiran, 33 years; all hailing from Hyderabad were picked up from the flat at Candolim. Cash amount of Rs 8,400, three mobile phones and one Laptop was seized by the police during the raid.
The accused were subsequently arrested in the criminal case registered at Calangute Police Station for contravening Section 3 and 4 of the Goa Public Gambling Act and subsequently released on bail after furnishing sureties of Rs 10,000.
This is the second raid by Calangute police with the previous one registered on September 30 night when five persons from Rajasthan and Nepal were caught red-handed for organising IPL betting.
In another IPL betting crackdown a day later, the Crime Branch arrested three habitual bookies from Hyderabad for the offence following a raid at a hotel in Morjim.
All three cases have been reported in the tourist popular coastal belt with domestic travellers thronging the State and the IPL season coinciding with Goa’s tourist season.
