VALPOI: Residents of Sonal, Sattari have submitted a memorandum to the Sattari magistrate demanding action against drunken tourists and for the village to be declared a no-alcohol zone.
On Saturday, more than 50 locals met magistrate Dasharath Gawas at his office and informed him about the nuisance caused by alcohol-consuming tourists, who arrived in greater numbers on Saturday and Sunday.
They stated that these tourists were spoiling the name of the area, and that four tourists had drowned in the river last year. They requested Gawas to depute police to the site on the weekend to keep a check on the situation. Gawas assured to forward their memorandum to Bicholim Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar, who would then arrange a joint meeting with the people and authorities.
Regarding the alcohol ban, he asked the locals to take a resolution at their gram sabha and submit the same to the excise department.
