Sattari’s muddy tap water due to high iron levels: Cabral

PORVORIM: PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral admitted a spike in the iron content of raw water which was the reason for muddy water being supplied to some parts of Sattari taluka earlier this year.

Cabral said that in February there was sudden rise in iron concentration in raw water due to the opening of the bottom gate of Anjunem dam by Water Resources Department (WRD).

He said “The department immediately started the pre treatment of raw water by dosing with alum lime to bring down the iron content within the permissible limit that is 0.3mg/l.”

He added that the quality of treated water is being checked on a daily basis and laboratory tests are being conducted periodically to ensure that the quality parameters of treated water are within the permissible limits before the water is actually supplied to the end consumer. The lime-alum dosing was halted in May when the iron content of raw water recorded less than 0.3mg/L.
