MARGAO: Former Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Savio Coutinho strongly criticized the haphazard execution of hot mixing of Margao roads. Coutinho stated that just because funds are available and have to be exhausted, a hot mix carpet is being provided to roads in Margao in a haphazard and shoddy manner.
“In several places the edges of roads have come nearly 20 to 30 cms above the shoulder of the road, further creating a risk to the public. Two-wheeler riders specially have a high risk of falling off the road on account of this level difference between the shoulder and hotmix carpet,” said Coutinho.
He pointed that the level of roads in Margao has come above the plinth levels of houses. “Even the footpaths that were higher than the road levels, have today come to road level. This is a sure invitation for vehicles to climb over the footpath and put pedestrians life in danger,” said Coutinho.
Coutinho demanded that the concerned authorities should check upon the work executed and further criticized the government for wastage of funds for these type of shoddy work, while on the other hand deprive the senior citizens of their monthly pension on time.
