MARGAO: Calling upon the state government to redefine the boundaries of the revenue district, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar on Saturday strongly rooted for the merger of Ponda, Madkai and Shiroda Assembly constituencies in the South revenue district.
He has also called upon the government to bestow the status of sub-district on Ponda taluka after its merger into the south revenue district. “I have requested the government to redefine the district revenue boundaries. People of Panchawadi in Shirdoa have to travel to Panjim for a revenue job because it comes under north revenue district. Ponda is closer to Margao than in Panjim. Ponda, Shiroda and Madkai should be brought under the south revenue district for the convenience of the people”, Sawaikar told the media during his visit to the District Collectorate, South, on Saturday.
The South Goa MP said that he has made a strong case before the Centre for a Rs 3,000 crore mining package. “The Finance Minister has stated that the state will receive the royalty of mining. The government will work out the modalities”, he said.
Sawaikar said he has requested the Railway Minister to run a special train to Vailankani between August 20 and September for the benefit of the pilgrims heading for novenas and feast of Our Lady of Vailankani.
He also underlining the need for a pragmatic approach to solve the burning issue of garbage and urged the Nehru Yuva Kendra volunteers to adopt a village in South Goa to make it plastic and waste free.
