PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Union Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday visited Barolia village in Amethi to meet the family members of BJP worker Surendra Singh, who was killed recently.
“Met the family of late Surendra Singh ji at Baraulia village in Amethi, along with Smt. @smritiirani ji,” Sawant said in a tweet.
Sawant said he had come to work in Amethi in 2014 as a worker, had worked with Surendra Singh and knew him very well.
Former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had adopted Barolia in 2015 as a Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh.
Former village head Surendra Singh was shot dead on May 25. He had worked very closely with Irani in past years.
Amethi is considered a stronghold of the Congress since years. But, Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi by 55,120 votes in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Cong wants CM to visit villages
adopted by Goa BJP MPs first
Taking a jibe at the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for his trip to Amethi where former defence minister late Manohar Parrikar had adopted a village, Congress demanded that he visit the village adopted by the Goa BJP MPs first.
Reacting to Sawant’s trip, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar said, “The village was adopted as a Rajya Sabha MP and whoever is elected in his (Parrikar) place, that person will carry forward the work. It is by an elected MP and it is a continuous process. Instead our Chief Minister should visit the Ibrampur village in Pernem and Khola village in Quepem which were adopted by the BJP MPs.”
Girish said when he is not reaching out to his own people who need him most then what is the point of going to other places. “We wonder what our Chief Minister is upto. There are so many problems here in Goa and he does not have the time to solve them, then what is he doing in Amethi. He should first attend to Goans and solve our problems”, he added.
