SC, ST, OBC asked to avail educational schemes

The Government through the Directorate of Social Welfare has implemented various educational schemes for the benefit of SC, ST and OBC members and has invited applications from members of the communities for scholarships, stipends, book banks, coaching and other facilities.
The last day for submission of applications is September 30.
Stipend to SC/ST students is Rs 325 to Rs 375 per month to students studying in Std V to X, depending on class of studies. The total income of parents should not exceed Rs 1,20,000 per annum. Meritorious scholarship for students studying in Std V to VI is Rs 900; Std VII to VIII is Rs 1000; Std IX is Rs 1100 and Std Xth is Rs 1600.
Stipend to OBC students will be Rs 225 to Rs 275 per month to students studying in Std V to X. Meritorious scholarship for standard in Std V to VI is Rs 800; Std VII to VIII is Rs 900; Std IX is Rs 1000 and Std Xth is Rs 1500.
Post-matric scholarship to OBC students will be granted depending on type of course pursued. The scholarship varies from Rs 90 to Rs 425 per month. The total income of parents/guardian should not exceed Rs 44,500.
Post-matric scholarship to SC/ST students varies from Rs 140 to Rs 740 per month. The income of parents/guardian should not exceed Rs 1 lakh for SC students and Rs 1,08,000 for ST students per annum. Grants will be provided to professional institutions to purchase books under Book Bank scheme for the benefits of SC/ST/OBC students. Institutions may avail facility.
Grants are also provided to institutions for providing remedial and special coaching for SC students to prepare them for competitive examination for entry into professional courses. Institutions having hostel facilities may apply. Only 5 students will be eligible top get coaching at Std IX which will be the entry point.
This will continue upto Std XII, wherein each class can have students up to 5 nos. Institution desirous in coaching a batch of 20 SC students in each class of Std V to X in Maths, Science and English are requested to apply for benefits. Remuneration will be offered to teachers, etc for conducting coaching classes.
A summer military training course for male SC students for duration of 4 weeks and a winter training course for female SC students for duration of 3 weeks will be sponsored through the schools. Financial assistance of Rs 4500 each for female students shall be granted for the course.
KanyaDhan Scheme for girl child of SC/ST community for Std XI of any stream: The total income of parents should not exceed Rs 1,20,000.
Grants for running hostels for Backward Classes students by voluntary social organizations: Any voluntary social organizations registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 shall be eligible to receive grants for accommodating not less than 20 hostellers of which not les than 75% should belong to SC and remaining 25% to other communities. The hostels will be given grants at Rs 400 per hosteller per month.
As an award for inter-caste marriage, couples will be awarded Rs 1 lakh. Either of the spouse should belong to Scheduled Caste. The couple should apply through respective Block Development Officer after one year but before 3 years of marriage.
