PANJIM: The Interlocutory Application (IA) filed by the Goa government seeking to stay the approval granted to Karnataka’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) to divert Mhadei waters, will come for hearing before the Supreme Court on Monday, February 13.
The matter will come up before the Supreme Court Bench comprising Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice M M Sundresh.

Last month, the State government filed an IA praying to stay the approval granted by the Central Water Commission (CWC) to the DPR submitted by Karnataka to divert River Mhadei water through the Kalasa-Bandura nulla projects.
The Goa government had strongly opposed the approval granted to Karnataka’s DPR on grounds that water cannot not be diverted from one wildlife sanctuary to another sanctuary without obtaining mandatory clearances as per Section 29 of the Wild Life Protection Act.
Also the Chief Wildlife Warden has already issued a show cause notice and stop work order to the Karnataka government for carrying out work in the Mhadei river basin.
Goa has contended that the Karnataka cannot carry out any construction works in Kalasa-Bandura region as per the SC verdict.
The judgment delivered on August 17, 2017.
Meanwhile, the main petition filed by the State government challenging the Inter-State Mhadei Water Disputes Award delivered in August 2018, is yet to come for hearing before the Court. Besides Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra have also challenged the Justice Panchal-headed Tribunal’s Award.
