PANJIM: Two months after Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant announced to make aptitude test and career guidance compulsory for students of class X and XII, the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will roll out the same from next week.
Nearly 36,000 students are set to appear for the test that will help them to assess their areas of interest so that they can chose and pursue the right career oriented courses.
The SCERT had last month conducted training workshop on conducting aptitude test and career guidance programme for teachers of the secondary and higher secondary schools.
SCERT Director Nagaraj Honnekeri said that the tests will be conducted online and based on the performance and result, counselling for the students will be held in January, next month.
The text will comprise of four sections — verbal, numerical, spatial and logical and each section will consist of 15 questions roughly.
“Here the answers will not be ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ but students will have to choose one of the four responses that are ‘very much’, ‘much’, ‘little’ and ‘very little’ based on their level of interest in the particular subject. This will help not only students but also teachers and parents to know their interest of studies,” Honnekeri said.
Post performance, he said that the teachers will have to study the aptitude test report of each student, and in consultation with parents, will have to counsel the students.
While for class X students, the test will be guided to pick the most suitable stream to purse post SSC, the students of Class XII will be recommended on career choices.
Chief Minister had in October announced that aptitude test and career guidance would be made compulsory for students of class X and XII from the academic year 2020-21 in order to help the students assess their areas of interest so that they can chose and pursue the right career oriented courses.
