Science & Community Park opened at Porvorim

MAPUSA: Science and Community Park at Porvorim was inaugurated by PWD Minister Dipak Pauskar in presence of Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, on Thursday.

The park will provide a learning experience both to the students and youth to explore and contribute to the science learning.

The Porvorim MLA said,”Due to several reasons, the science parks are increasingly popular worldwide. They are open air, full of fun and have relaxed learning environment. Children get opportunity to observe, feel, and enjoy many scientific phenomena that surround us.”

“The Science and Community Park at Porvorim, provides a learning experience to both, the students and youth, to explore and contribute to the science learning. The facilities include, learning by playing with scientific instruments, peer learning, exploring nature in its lap, observing sky to locate and learn the outer space and planets,” said Khaunte.

He said that a dedicated activity space in the park is provided for the schools to utilise and display science and action projects. This space is purely utilised as collaborative space to create a new knowledge through experiential learning.

“The amphitheatre is to showcase and screen science and environment films and to organise invited guest lectures on topics of science, environment and atmosphere. Teachers from the nearby schools can utilise this space for organising science events,” he added.

A space is created on top of the building for star gazing and exploring atmospheric science through highly sophisticated instruments. The lecture hall/community space is for discussion, debate and to study in association/guidance of instructor/facilitator.

Khaunte said that the park is property of the people and they should maintain it with love and care. Park provides an outdoor learning opportunity. Make use of it for your overall capacity development. The park will have free internet facility, which can be made use for scholastic purpose.
