MARGAO: It was evident that there would be a bypoll in one of the wards of Dramapur Sirlim panchayat as scrutiny of nominations was over on the first day at Margao where two nominations were rejected while some have been given time to present their case tomorrow and six candidates are likely to get elected unopposed. Scrutiny of nominations of four wards in two different panchayats will be taken up tomorriow.
As Sanjana Chari is the lone candidate in ward Nos. 3 and 4 of Dramapur Sirlim panchayat, she will have to resign from one thereby necessitating bypolls in that ward.
The other lone candidates are Remmy Santana Fernandes in ward No. 2 of Dramapur Sirlim, Joanita Alemao in ward No. 4 of Carmurlim, Mafaldina Vincente Martin in ward No. 6 of Chandor-Cavorim and Ritinha Jose Oliveira in Ward no. 1 of San Jose de Areal.
Nominations of two candidates from Raia namely Efornie Fernandes from ward No. 5 and Mrinali Svetla Fernandes from ward No. 8 were rejected because they were only 20-year-old and one needs to be at least 21-year-old to contest the panchayat polls.
Antonio Xavier Domingos Rodrigues from Ward No. of Curtorim, Shreya Pandhari Bandari from ward No. 3 of Aquem Baixo and Aida Joao Cardoso Fernandes from ward No. 8 Navelim were asked to produce the relevant documents tomorrow as the notarized copies were not submitted along with the nomination papers.
Both Sebastiao Joao Salvador Pereira seeking to contest from ward No. 1 of Dramapur Sirlim and Jesus Lourencinho D’Costa from ward No. 2 of Cavelossim have been asked to present their case tomorrow as their nominations were objected to.
While Sebastiao Joao Salvador Pereira’s nomination was objected to on grounds that he gains monetary benefits from the panchayat in the case of Jesus Lourencinho D’Costa it was alleged that he does not belong to the fishermen community.
Following the High Court order cancelling the reservation of some wards for OBC, scrutiny of three wards of Betalbatim village panchayat and ward No. 10 of Nuvem village panchayat will be taken up tomorrow.
