PANJIM: All 54 Goan seafarers, who returned to Goa late Tuesday night, were tested for COVID-19 on Thursday. The reports of the test are awaited.
The entire batch, which is currently quarantined at a hotel in Panjim, was also tested for the infection at Mumbai before disembarkation from the ship Marella Discovery.
Dr Utkarsh Bethodkar, nodal officer for COVID-19, said that the samples of all 54 seafarers have been collected for COVID-19 test. “We are expecting result late today (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday) morning,” he said.
Three buses carrying Goan seafarers entered Goa late Tuesday night and drove straight to Ginger Hotel, Patto, a paid quarantine facility. The local administration, including the police and health officials, have ensured that the 14-day mandatory quarantine period is adhered to.
Meanwhile, of the seven patients who had tested positive for COVID-19, six have been discharged and have also completed the home quarantine process. Only one recovered patient is still under home quarantine.
On Thursday, 153 samples, tested for coronavirus reported negative. The reports of 13 samples are awaited, as per the Health Bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services.
Also, on Thursday, three new persons were placed in the isolation ward of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), taking the total tally of suspects admitted to four. Another 83 are under facility quarantine.
