BRITONA: Independent candidate from Porvorim, Rohan Khaunte on Sunday said that there is a strong anti-BJP wave in Goa due to which the question of him supporting the saffron party in the coming elections doesn’t arise.
Speaking to Herald, Rohan Khaunte said, “Both in the North and South of Goa, there is a complete anti-BJP wave and there is no question of me joining the BJP in the coming elections. It can be clearly seen that tall ministers from the ruling party are being driven out of their constituencies and I am sure all secular forces will form the next government.”
When asked on why he is supporting Goa Forward candidate Jayesh Shirodkar, when he himself is an independent candidate and is backed by the Congress, Khaunte said, “We are all secular forces coming together and as far as I am concerned I am contesting as an independent and the Congress has supported and backed me and today Goa Forward has also proved its secular tag by extending support to me.”
He further said, “Jayesh Shirodkar is my personal and good friend and I will ensure support to him as we all our secular forces. He is a new face and Saligao needs a new face.”
“The people who spoke on MoI and the casinos, these don’t exist in their manifesto which is completely opposite to the what GSM is taking about, so I think let the BJP and MGP decide for them, as far as I am concerned, I have received secular support from secular parties,” he added.
