CANACONA: With animal shelters across the globe finding it difficult to take care of the animals in-house due to COVID-19 pandemic, Animal Rescue Centre (ARC) at Canacona which is run by a foreign expat is in a similar predicament.
The ARC is trying to reach out to the people confined to their homes in South Goa since more than a month due to restrictions imposed due to COVID-19 lockdown requesting them to become part of ARC’s emergency foster team for companionship.
In various posts on social media platforms, ARC Canacona has posted, “In South Goa and stuck at home? Become part of ARC’s emergency foster team for companionship”.
It further reads, “Seek out a friend from ARC to ride out the coronavirus crisis with and you will also be helping our shelter by alleviating the strain on our remaining staff.”
“We need fosters for all types of pets including puppies, larger dogs, kittens and cats. We will support and can help to provide supplies and food and will be open if any issues arise,” informed Janie Oconnor, director of ARC, situated at Chapolim, here.
Oconnor said that anyone enthusiastic to foster a pet can drop at the shelter or directly get in touch on 9665636264.
She also suggested that not to offer to foster if a family members has returned from travels and are still in their two week isolation period.
Sucour D’Silva, a businessman and an avid animal enthusiast, speaking to Herald said that the shelters all over the world are reporting a rise in foster applications as people seek out a friend to ride out the coronavirus crisis with.
“One of the reasons why people are unable to adopt pets in Goa is because they are busy with their own daily chores. It is not fair to the animal if you are not able to spend enough time with them.”
“The COVID-19 pandemic at last will come to the rescue of the so many pets, who live on the edge in shelters as they will get a new home and a new master.”
