Semana explores Portuguese influence on Goan culture

PANJIM: The tenth edition of the Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa was inaugurated with lively interactive session on Portuguese influence on Goan Culture.
Francisco Martins, Chairman of the Executive Committee planning the event said, “Through this 10th anniversary landmark event, we at Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) would like to share and enjoy the essence of our diverse culture and keep the unique Goan identity alive.”
“Goa has its own unique identity and culture which is a blend of Indian and western nuances. We thank everyone who has assisted in putting this event together,” he added.
Noted journalist and author Alexandre Barbosa moderated the session on Portuguese Influence on Goan Culture’ which had historians Prajal Sakharande and Maria Lourdes Bravo de Costa on the panel. The speakers threw light on the subject while deliberating on the various nuances of Goan culture and identity which are unique in every way.
Simultaneously, Goa will roll out the red carpet for film aficionados as a Portuguese film festival will be held from December 8-10 at Maquinez Palace, Old GMC Complex. Curated by Nalini de Souza and Prof Delfim Correia Da Silva, the festival will screen carefully selected films during the three-day event.
Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) was established in 2008 at the initiative of the Portuguese Consulate in Goa and by various local organizations with an aim and objective of maintaining and keeping alive the unique Goan culture and identity.
In the last decade Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) has worked tirelessly to encourage and promote Goan and Portuguese culture including art, cuisine, films and other art forms through Goan and Portuguese artists who performed in Goa and delighted audiences.
