Seraulim villagers extend helping hand to people displaced in Manipur, dispatch food consignment

MARGAO: In a heartening display of community spirit, residents of Seraulim, brought together by Street Providence Trust-Goa, have joined forces to extend a helping hand to those affected by the recent violence in Manipur. A substantial food consignment, valued at lakhs of rupees, was dispatched to Manipur on Friday, underscoring the power of solidarity and compassion during challenging times.

The collective efforts of the villagers exemplify the strength of community bonds that transcend geographical boundaries.

Donald Fernandes, representing Street Providence, expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Seraulim villagers and emphasised the massive difference the consignment will make for those who were displaced from their homes in Manipur and are residing in camps. He urged more individuals, irrespective of their affiliations, to join hands and extend their support.

Apart from the food consignment from Seraulim, relief materials collected from donors and churches across Goa, including Christmas sweets and goodies, warm clothes and woollens and essentials like baby formula, sanitary pads and toiletries will be sent to Manipur in trucks.

Considering the local understanding that the suffering in Manipur may persist for another year, Fernandes highlighted the need to build low-budget houses for the homeless.

He added that plans are underway to construct at least 100 houses, with their first shelter home set to be inaugurated on December 8.

Santolino Rodrigues commended the positive response from the small village of Seraulim, urging more people to come forward and support their brothers and sisters in Manipur. Rodney Almeida echoed the sentiment, emphasising the collective responsibility to rise up and assist the brotherhood in Manipur.

The compassionate outreach from Seraulim demonstrates the impact of local initiatives in providing relief and fostering unity during times of crisis.
