MARGAO: In a bid to improve parking facilities and enhance efficiency, the Konkan Railway administration has unveiled plans to introduce a computerised pay parking system at the Margao Railway Station. The new system, scheduled to be operational by the end of November, aims to streamline vehicle management within the station premises.
Under this initiative, commuters entering the railway station with vehicles will be charged at the point of entry. The fee structure for parking within the station area for up to six hours has been established: Rs 10 for two-wheelers, Rs 20 for four-wheelers, and Rs 50 for minivans.

Senior PR officer for Konkan Railway, Baban Ghatge, emphasised that the implementation of this automated system is designed to bring a structured and organised approach to parking, similar to systems observed at airports.
While the railway administration has not officially launched this facility yet, there have been reports of workers collecting tolls from vehicles exiting the station, following the new pay parking rules.
The decision to introduce a pay-parking system stems from various factors, including the presence of cargo tempos within the station premises, uncertainty about parking durations, and challenges related to unregulated two-wheeler parking. The new system aims to address these issues, improve security for passengers, and curb traffic congestion within the premises.
