MARGAO: Condemning the government for rejecting their demand for the western bypass to be constructed as a flyover in the fields in their village, Seraulm villagers threatened to take to the streets to press for their demands.
The matter was discussed after the gram sabha was adjourned and concerned villagers pointed out that while the government has agreed to a flyover in Porvorim and closer at Navelim had rejected it in their village.
There were heated discussions on the issue with some villagers demanding that the farmers who were compensated for their land loss be called for the agitation and speak on the matter. “They have received the money and are sitting quiet now while we the villagers are being stirred up for the agitation,” said some villagers.
Kevin D’Souza who is also a member of the panchayat disclosed that the land was acquired for the purpose of a ring road and now is being used to construct the western bypass and said they could even go to court over the matter.
As the panchayat was not taken into confidence over the matter ever by the government, the villagers decided to agitate over the matter if the government does not give in to their demand.
