PORVORIM: Jonoeiros and shareholders of Serula Comunidade on Sunday elected a panel for the triennium 2013-16.
At a meeting called at Gadge Maharaj Hall, Porvorim, the new committee members elected are Joseph Pinto (president), Anacleto Martins (substitute president), Agnelo Lobo (attorney), Florencio Sequeira (substitute attorney), Sharad Naik (treasurer) and Domingo Pinto (substitute treasurer).
Presiding Officer Dasharat Gawas, Bardez Mamlatdar, conducted the election in the presence of Deputy Collector Bardez Sabaji Shetye and observer of North Goa Comunidade Vishant Gaunekar.
Speaking to media persons, Bardez Mamlatdar Gawas informed that the election process started at 8.30 am and the components/shareholders were allowed inside the hall after verifying their names.
“Four objections were received from the components/shareholders, but they were disposed off. The election was conducted by raising of hands. In all, 225 voters had registered their names. The elected members secured 196 votes each and hence they were declared elected. Police personnel assisted in conducting the election smoothly,” informed Gawas.
Speaking to Herald, the new president Joseph Pinto said this was one of the toughest elections of Serula Comunidade and the comunidade had to seek assistance of the High Court to conduct the election.
“Despite directions of the High Court, the election process was disrupted by the opponents thrice earlier,” added Pinto.
“Garbage is the main issue concerning the neighbouring panchayats of Penha-de-Franca, Socorro, Salvador do Mundo, Reis Magos, Nerul and Pilerne and comunidade will look into possibility of offering them land to set up a garbage treatment plant,” said Pinto.
“The committee will ensure that the commercial project of the Serula Comunidade, which is coming up opposite Gauri petrol pump in Porvorim, is completed soon,” added Pinto.
