CANACONA: Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik has assured to install three high-mast lamps in the municipal areas of Canacona, by spending Rs 18 lakh from the MPLAD funds.
Naik was speaking at the inaugural function of the newly constructed library block of Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya, Char-Rasta, built at a cost of Rs 25 lakh from the MPLAD funds.
Indirectly hinting that none from the erstwhile Poinguinim constituency had approached him for any project from the MPLAD funds, Naik expressed his desire to recommend a project, if brought to his notice, from the ST dominated areas of the taluka.
According to statistics provided by Naik in his speech, projects work Rs 61 lakh which have been recommended by him under the MPLAD funds have either been completed or are underway in Canacona taluka. The library-cum-laboratory block of Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya, Char-Rasta is one such project executed by Naik.
Naik said he was willing to recommend more projects worth Rs 44 lakh, if brought to his notice.
Of the Rs 44 lakh from the MPLAD fund available at his disposal, Naik proposed to install high-mast lamps at three prominent locations in municipal areas by spending Rs 18 lakh.
The high-masts are expected to be installed at the junctions of Char-Rasta, Chaudi (old Bus-stand) and near the deputy collector’s office.
Others present at the function included Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Madhav Dessai, School headmaster Nelwyn Fernandes, Centro Promoter de Instrucao (CPI) Acting Chairman Anand Dessai and former CPI chairman Vikas Dessai.
