VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Saturday removed an encroachment set up on the ground floor of Dr Kosambe building in Vasco, ahead of the Vasco Saptah.
Acting on a Herald report, MMC Chief Officer Y B Tavde took swift action and got the MMC workers and the market inspectors to remove the encroachment from the building.
“After receiving information from a Herald report, I immediately dispatched the market inspectors to inspect site and remove the encroachment. I will not tolerate any illegality during the Saptah fair,” said Tavde.
The shopkeepers at the building had alleged that municipal inspectors had been under pressure from councillors to turn a blind eye to the illegalities during the Saptah.
Lauding the chief officer for the quick action, the shopkeepers also requested Tavde to survey the city and to initiate action against other illegal stalls that are set up during the Saptah.
