Shantaram Naik has demanded resignation of Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar
following a warning by the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) to be
‘circumspect and careful in future while making (political) statements.’
“Parrikar should
immediately tender his resignation from the Union Council Of Minister as he has
been held guilty by the ECI for his remark on bribery in which he told the
public at a meeting in Goa to accept money from whoever offers but that they
should vote for BJP,” Naik said in a press statement issued on Friday. He
stated that Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi should in fact demand his cabinet
minister’s resignation.

The ECI
on Wednesday advised the defense minister to be more circumspect and careful in
future while making statements, while it also observed that he violated the
ongoing election code of conduct through his bribery remark.
Naik said ‘that a union minister, who is practically
ranked third in the union cabinet, should show such arrogance and scant respect
to the Commission and the elections laws is shocking and disgraceful.”
“Parrikar has been indirectly projected as Chief Ministerial candidate by no
less a leader than Union Minister for Shipping Roads and Highways Nitin
Gadkari, during one of his press conferences in the State. Modi in one of his
meetings said that Goa has given him a diamond,” he said adding that Parrikar
has brought disgrace to the Ministry and spoiled the fair name of the State and
the country.
