PANJIM: After a consistent spike in COVID-19 cases for the first three consecutive days of September, the positive patients’ graph for the day witnessed a sharp decline on Friday, as 508 new people were tested positive. However, the mortality count remained the same with eight deaths in the last 48 hours taking the total count to 220.
Since September 1, Goa set a record by adding 2445 new patients to the COVID tally, while there were 28 who succumbed to the virus. While 713 people got infected by COVID-19 on September 3 – the highest ever – on September 2 it was 636 positive patients detected, while on September 1, it was 588.
In the last few days, post Ganesh Chaturthi, the State has seen a continuous spike in coronavirus cases with close to 5000 people getting infected.
With 508 new COVID cases, the State’s count of confirmed patients stood at 19,863, of which 4,896 people are undergoing treatment at present at various facilities and in home isolation. The day also saw 386 recoveries. As such, since January 29, there have been 14,747 patients declared cured.
As per the bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS), of the 2523 samples tested on Friday, 508 were positive while 1631 were negative. The reports of 384 samples are awaited. Till date, the State has conducted 2,08,917 tests.
A 54-year-old woman and 60-year-old man from Davorlim, both were brought dead to the South Goa district hospital on Thursday and were later found to be positive during the post-mortem. Further a 78-year -old man from Ribandar, a 76-year-old woman from Aldona, a 79-year-old woman from Benaulim, admitted in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), were also declared dead on Thursday.
Also, a 65-year-old woman and a 48-year-old unknown man patient died in the ESI hospital on Thursday.
On Friday, until the bulletin was released, there was one death reported of a 75-year-old man from Vasco. All the victims were suffering from co-morbid condition.
As many as 160 patients are currently admitted in hospital isolation while 270 have opted for home isolation.
