Shirodkar hails Cong for helping Goa in time of need

The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Subash Shirodkar today hailed the All India Congress Committee for supporting Goa in times of need.
Addressing the function to mark the 125th anniversary of the AICC, in New Delhi, Shirodkar expressed his gratitude towards the party.
Speaking to Herald from Delhi, Shirodkar said for the first time in the history a GPCC president was given a chance to address AICC anniversary.
“It is because the occasion coincided with the beginning of 50 years of celebration of Goa’s liberation,” he said.
“I expressed my gratitude to the Congress party for giving us liberation. The Congress and the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru gave us liberation with quick action,” Shirodkar said.
He added, thereafter whenever there was any request the party was kind enough to consider them.
“For example when we asked for opinion poll it was given to us, we asked for Konkani to be made official language it was done, we asked for statehood it was accepted,” he said adding “… Besides whenever we have asked for financial backing that has also been given like the Rs 300 cr assistance for National Games, Rs 200 cr for golden jubilee celebrations and nearly Rs 5,000 cr for the development of National Highways.”
