PANJIM: The shopkeepers from Panjim Municipal Market will shut their establishments on Sunday, March 22, in response to the Prime Minister’s call for a self-imposed ‘Janta Curfew ‘, as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of CoVID-19.
The Market Tenant Association has decided to shut the entire market to support Janta Curfew from 7 am to 9 pm on Sunday.
The market vendors have also decided not to purchase fresh stock of vegetables, fruits and flowers on Saturday and hence, its availability is likely to be limited in the coming week.
Speaking to Herald, Association president Rajendra Dhamaskar said, “In view of the call given by the Prime Minister, it becomes our responsibility to support the cause in large interest of the country. We have appealed all the shopkeepers and vendors to shut their units on Sunday from morning to night. They have agreed to support the cause.”
Dhamaskar added that the coronavirus pandemic is spreading across the country and as responsible citizens of the nation; it becomes our duty to ensure that the nation unitedly fights against the deadly virus. “It is just a matter of one day. We urge people to purchase all the required stock on Saturday itself,” he said.
One of the vegetable vendors explained that since there will be no purchase of fresh vegetables from suppliers on Saturday and Sunday – there will be a lesser amount of veggies available on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
