PANJIM/MARGAO: In a major development, the Belagavi district administration has decided to ban the movement of heavy passenger and tourist vehicles to and fro their State borders with immediate effect.
The order, issued by Belagavi Dy Commissioner and District Magistrate said that the decision was taken by the District Disaster Management Authority, Belagavi district, at its meeting on Friday.

“Accordingly, movement ban order has been issued today (Friday) prohibiting the movement of passenger vehicles maxicab (12+1), all heavy passenger vehicles like contract carriage, stage carriage, All India tourist buses (tourist omni buses) from Belagavi district to the States of Maharashtra and Goa and vice versa with immediate effect, until further orders as per the Epidemic Disease, COVID-19 Regulations, to contain the spread of disease in Belagavi district,” the order says.
Similarly, the South Goa District Collector said they have been informed by the Karnataka Border District Administration that the latter will prohibit certain vehicle movement to and fro across their State borders.
The South District Collector said that Karnataka is going to check the road traffic from midnight. “I have received a call from Karnataka district administration that they are going to regulate traffic. All public buses will be prohibited, private cars can go but they will be checked. Essential supplies like trucks with fruits, vegetables etc will be allowed only after proper checking,” the Collector said, adding that these are precautions so that the spread of the virus is contained.
