PANJIM: The government constituted a committee headed by the CCP Commissioner, Sanjit Rodrigues to inquire into alleged irregularities in allocation and sub letting of market shops. The committee submitted a report to the government which detailed subletting of shops.
Around two years ago, the government formed another committee under IAS officer N D Agarwal which pointed out that 90 per cent of the shops in the city market complex was allotted illegally. The report also pointed out the role of certain sections in the CCP itself as well as the corporators responsible for this mess. However, neither the CCP nor the government till date has taken any action.
An assessment of goings on within the market shows that there are even cashew traders, who arrived from Gujarat and are now conducting their business from these shops
