PANJIM: Director General of Police (DGP) Muktesh Chander has equated policemen with short temper to a delinquent while instructing his subordinates to severely deal with cases of misconduct and misbehaviour.
“Any officer who shows leniency with such delinquent officer, that officer (inquiry officer) will also be dealt with severely and it will be pointed out in their ACR that he has been tolerating or being lenient with such a misconduct by his subordinates,” Chander said while inaugurating a workshop for the police force on how to tackle an adverse situation within the law.
The superintendents of police (SP) and sub divisional police officers (SDPO) have been asked to remain vigilant in such matters or face the heat.
“You have to make it very clear in mind that such conduct will not be tolerated and all those officers conducting disciplinary enquiry against such delinquent people (personnel), should submit weekly report to me. I don’t want a single day to go wasted or that these enquiries become an eye-wash”, he said.
The DGP has also given liberty to inquiry officers to immediately take a decision based on the gravity of an incident. “For me it is dismissal. We have no place for police personnel who beat people or loses their cool. Today the assault is with hand tomorrow it will be gun, and as such if they cannot respect the law they do not deserve to be in the force”, he added.
Chander recommended his police force to record interaction with the civilians and in case of provocation by the general public, to use the video as evidence in the criminal case. The Department is expected to place an order for police body cameras to record events particularly those on mega scale.
