Mickky was summoned for the hearing of the trial against him in a case pertaining to extortion in a casino. The Margao Judicial Magistrate First Class court has now issued show cause notice to the jailor of Sada Sub Jail for the failure. The court had directed the Sada jail authorities in south Goa to produce Pacheco in court on July 1.
Pacheco through the jailor of Sada Sub Jail was directed on June 17 to appear before JMFC Judge Kalpana Gawas. The next hearing has now been kept on July 29 .
Goa Crime Branch officials had in September 2009 quizzed Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco for nearly two hours in connection with a casino extortion case registered against the then Nationalist Congress Party legislator.
Mickky was booked by the Crime Branch on September 17 for allegedly extorting Rs. 3.69 lakh, assaulting casino staffers and threatening them with dire consequences.
Meanwhile he office of Goa Governor Mridula Sinha on Tuesday forwarded convicted ex-minister Francisco ‘Mickky’ Pacheco’s plea to the government for a legal opinion. The petition was forwarded to the acting Chief Secretary R K Srivastava, who is expected to revert within this week.
Mickky, undergoing six months imprisonment at Sada sub-jail for slapping junior electricity engineer Kapil Natekar in 2006, had filed the petition through Goa Vikas Party President and his wife Viola Fernandes seeking pardon from the governor.
Sources said senior public prosecutors could be asked to advice on the plea considering several convicts are undergoing sentence for various offenses including heinous crime.
The legal opinion will then be placed before the cabinet for a decision following which it will be sent to the Governor to decide whether or not to grant him pardon. Mickky has meanwhile withdrawn his earlier application seeking 30 days parole.
