PANJIM, SEPT 19
While, the North Goa Member of Parliament Shripad Naik picked up several national issues in the Parliament, the BJP member failed to impress in raising issues related to Goa.
The Parliamentarian called out a press conference today afternoon to inform about various national centric issues he highlighted in the Lok Sabha.
He said that he sought to know from the Central Government on steps the latter has undertaken in the age old matters of Bhopal Gas tragedy, unpreparedness over Commonwealth games to begin in October 2010, security at Indian borders, etc.
“There is corruption. Not only in the Bhopal gas tragedy but also Commonwealth games. We are also facing threat of invasion from China who is ready to attack us anytime, including threat from Pakistan. The intention of the Indian Government does not seem to protect our country,” he lamented.
The ex-union minister also sought reply over other general concerns like money laundering, ayurveda controversy, delay in arrival/departure of government airlines, action against industries violating Environment Protection Act, FEMA, etc.
Ironically, BJP managed to adjourn proceedings of the Goa Legislative Assembly atleast seven times over the police-drug mafia nexus found wanting at Lok Sabha.
Replying to a question by a media person, Naik that the matter was raised during general discussion.
“This was discussed during general discussion. Wherever we get an opportunity we will raise the matter,” he fumbled.
BJP’s National Secretary Arati Mehra who was down in Goa earlier this month, had committed to debate the much-touted nexus case in Delhi.
Interestingly, the illegal mining trade was also buried in the Parliament discussion apart from other grave issues of Goa.
