A poor 21 per cent voting was recorded to elect new representatives on two agricultural societies in Canacona taluka.
According to sources, only 429 voting right holders out of the total eligible 1,971 turned out to vote in the elections held at Canacona Mamlatdar’s office on Sunday.
Canacona Mamlatdar Chandrakant Shetkar was the returning officer for the elections and the elections were completed without any incident, informed sources.
The two agricultural bodies that went to polls to elect new representatives are Goa Bhagyatdar Society and Adarsh Sahakari Society.
In Canacona taluka, Goa Bhagyatdar has 685 voting strength, while Adarsh has 1,286 eligible voters. In all, 189 votes were polled for Goa Bhagyatdar, while 240 votes were polled for Adarsh.
It is learnt that no polling took place for the third agriculture body, Bhagyatdar Credit Society, having an electorate strength of 200 voters, as the contesting candidates are reportedly elected unopposed.
It is reportedly learnt that Sanjay Pinge, Laxman Velip and Pandurang Agrasani are three candidates in fray for Goa Bhagyatdar body.
MARGAO REPORTER ADDS : Nearly 21.17 per cent polling was recorded in the election for the Goa State Agricultural Marketing Board, Arlem on Sunday.
Polling took place on Sunday at the respective taluka Mamlatdar office. There are 20 candidates in the fray for the eight seats at stake.
Three candidates, including two women and one member from the Trader’s constituency have been elected unopposed.
Counting of votes will take place at the multipurpose high school hall, Borda on Monday from 9 am, stated Returning Officer, Sanjeev C G Desai.
