At least three po lice sub-inspectors attached to the Margao Town Police Station have reportedly tested positive for dengue and are undergoing treat ment, while some police constables have already been affected by the disease, according to police sources. Sources indicate that one sub-inspector has been ad mitted to a private hospital in Margao, while another is receiving treatment in Canacona. Both are report edly responding well to treatment and their condi tions are improving. A third sub-inspector attached to the station has also tested positive and is currently undergoing treatment.
Following the detection of these cases, the Margao Urban Health Centre has intensified surveillance in and around the police station premises and initi ated preventive measures to curb further transmis sion. Over the past few days, health workers have carried out fogging operations and anti-larval measures, along side inspecting the police station compound and sur rounding areas for stagnant water and potential mos quito-breeding sites. Health officials have ex pressed concern over gar bage accumulation around the premises, noting that it could create favorable con ditions for the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes, the pri mary vector for dengue.

In response to local con cerns, the Health Depart ment has stepped up pre ventive measures in the area. This surveillance is expected to continue, par ticularly during the ongo ing monsoon season when stagnant water creates suitable breeding grounds. Meanwhile, police sourc es noted that the dengue situation at the South Goa District Police Headquar ters has shown signs of im provement, with sanitation and cleanliness measures enhanced as a precaution.
