* BJP releases list of 22, forced to field alternate candidate in Porvorim after Naik refuses to contest

*Five Catholic candidates in first list

PANJIM: A day after the Congress announced its list of 22 candidates, the Bharatiya Janata Party also announced a list of 22 members which includes names of four minority candidates but surprisingly has left out North Goa MP Shripad Naik.
Earlier in the day BJP National President Nitin Gadkari had announced that Shripad will contest the Assembly. He had not mentioned from which constituency though. Within hours Shripad said he will not contest as there was not much time left for him to contest. (On pg 4 BJP says yes, Shripad says no).
With Shripad opting out of elections, the BJP leadership will have to look out for an alternate candidate in Porvorim.
The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya
BJP Parliamentary Party, Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition (Lok Sabha), Arun Jaitley, Leader of Opposition (Rajya Sabha) and all the members of the Central Election Committee of the BJP.
Vasudev Meng Gaonkar is the only sitting MLA who has not found his seat cleared in the first list. Vijay Pai Khot, who was the Poinguinim MLA does not have a constituency this time.
The five minority candidates included are Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza, Michael Lobo (Calangute), Glenn Ticlo (Aldona), Matanhy Saldanha (Cortalim) and Carlos Almeida (Vasco).
Party officials say the next list would be announced in a day or two.Earlier in the day, the BJP also announced its alliance with the MGP.
