VASCO: The Vasco Traffic Cell till Saturday received only one application under the Traffic Warden Scheme, which was brought out by the government to give traffic regulation training for the locals, to be an asset to the traffic police and the locals during the rush hours.
Deputy SP Traffic Dharmesh Angle said that more people should have voluntarily participated in this scheme so that they can regulate heavy traffic whenever there is a need. Speaking to Herald, DySp Angle stated that the scheme was for the person with good background who could enroll and train for traffic regulation just like a traffic constable.
He said, “All over Goa we are having around 50 volunteers. The scheme is voluntary and therefore I feel people should willingly come forward to register themselves.”
Vasco Police Inspector Suraj Samant informed that few months back some schools from Vasco had written letters to us asking to deploy traffic police near the schools. Traffic Cell had replied to them asking them to deploy their own traffic warden to regulated traffic as there is shortage of staff. We had even mentioned it in our replies that the traffic warden will be given proper traffic regulating training by our officials.
PI Samant also opined that if there were many applicants for this scheme then the existing traffic staff could have been utilised elsewhere wherever they are needed the most.
