SIOLIM: Siolim and Assagao roads in Siolim Constituency need urgent facelift as these roads are in bad shape with potholes all over, the locals said.
Pernem locals including tourists travel on these pathetic MDR roads every day, which have turned into a nightmare for the commuters.

Locals claim that for several years these roads have not repaired or hot-mixed. Adding to them, the Water Resources Department has dug up these roads for installation of Tilari water pipeline. However, the authorities have failed to complete the work on a given deadline, the locals said.
Almost a two-km stretch of Assagao road has turned into “mining area” due to the dust pollution caused by the constant movement of vehicles. The Assagao road connects the beaches of Bardez to Pernem due to which, all the tourists travelling to Pernem take this route due to which this road remains busy throughout the day and night.
Due to digging, the Assagao roads have become narrow which is leading to constant traffic congestion everyday which continues with movement of vehicles.
A daily commuter Prasad Naik said, “It’s been so many years now that roads in Siolim are not repaired. I have been travelling on this route for the past several years and due to the bad condition of the roads, it is causing inconvenience to the motorists especially daily commuters.”
“Thousands of tourist who visit Goa for holidays, use this road since Assagao village connects the Bardez beach belt to Pernem. However, the local authorities have failed to solve the issue which is raised in every gram sabha. People have literally come on the road demanding repairs but all that the department does is cosmetic patch work. If the roads are repaired then it is going to give major relief to daily commuters, especially the motorists,” said Sudha Naik, a local.
