MAPUSA: Irked over irregular water supply, the residents of Guddem-Siolim on Monday gheraoed the PWD office and confronted the Assistant Engineer. They have served an eight-day deadline to regularise water supply and demanded the immediate transfer of the concerned junior engineer failing which they have threatened to block the road.

The residents complained that since the last 30 to 40 years they are facing water shortage problem. However, since the last 15 days they are facing severe problems. They claimed that the concerned JE, who looks after the Guddem area, has completely failed to solve the irregular water supply issue.

The residents further claimed that they receive regular water supply only during the festivals but throughout the year, they face major problems.

They said if the PWD can supply regular water supply during festivals then why not daily. The residents alleged that water is diverted and demanded an inquiry in this regard.

The residents also asked Executive Engineer to immediately transfer the two tank operators in Marna and Oxel and appoint single operator for Marna and Oxel, as the two operators are not cooperating due to which the locals are suffering.

The locals also informed that a water pipeline for Guddem-Siolim area was tendered. However, till date there is no sign of it. They said if this pipeline is installed then the water problem in the area would be solved.

The residents also informed that they are forced to undergo sleepless nights due to irregular water supply.

Yadhuvir Simepurushkar, a local, said, “We visited the PWD office several times regarding this issue. However, no action has been taken. If the department can supply regular water during the festive occasions then why not throughout the year. We feel that the water is being diverted and concerned EE should conduct an inquiry into the same. Also if the water problem is not solved within next eight days then we will block the road.”
