PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has collected more evidence against Assistant Geologist Ramnath Shetgaonkar, who has been arrested in the mining scam.
From the search conducted at his office in the Department of Mines & Geology, SIT attached 26 files along with more than 12 illegal extraction in private land major inspection files in his possession. The officer is accused of not proposing criminal action that facilitated illegal mining.
“Initial Inspection file relating to Jitendra Deshprabhu (accused in other mining case) carried out by Shetgaonkar and thereafter proposing for compounding of offence are also attached. Since he failed to take action against Deshprabhu, he managed to extract illegal ore in lakhs of matric tonnes,” an officer said.
The raid at the department office continued till late night.
