Six families shifted to safer places in Sal, Mercurem

BICHOLIM: Four families in Sal and two families from Menkurem were rescued and shifted to safer place after water entered their houses on Thursday.
According to the available information, water started rising after Tillari dam opened all its four gates to release the excess water which entered Sal and other surrounding areas. Late in the evening water started entering the houses and people started running out to safer places. There were more than 25 houses that were affected in Sal.
All the household and electronic equipments were damaged due to flooding. “About 25 persons were rescued from Sal and we have rehabilitated them to safer places. We are providing them with necessary food from the disaster management fund. We are closely monitoring the situation. Additional manpower, including police personnel, officials from captain of ports, professional divers, life guards from Dristhi are being added. We are also providing life jackets,” said Bicholim Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit. 
In the morning the CM and Speaker visited the site and took stock of the situation. At Maina Navelim some cattle were stranded who were later rescued by the fire force. 
Bicholim MLA and Speaker Rajesh Patnekar said that flood in Sal is because of release of Tillari dam water. “The officers are keeping no stone unturned to rescue the affected people. We would try our best to give compensation to those affected,” Patnekar added.
