PANJIM: Six Goan films have been selected for screening at the 44th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which begins November 20.
Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) vice chairman, Vishnu Surya Wagh said Monday. The films include Mortoo, directed by Jitendra Shikerkar, A Rainy Day by Rajendra Talak, Suring by Swapnil Shetkar, Raktyug by Siddesh Borkar, Gunaaji by M S Davan Rivonkar and Mariola by Joe Rose. Talak’s film is the only Marathi film in this section, while the rest are Konkani. Each spanning about 90 minutes, these films will be screened at Inox Audi 4.
These films have been selected out of the 25 entries which were received for the festival.
“We have selected these films based on script, quality, medium and technicals,” Wagh said. The two compulsory parameters for entries were censor certificate and English subtitles.
ESG for the first time this year has specially created a section to screen Goan films, at the behest of film makers, producers and artists from the State. The Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) and Ministry for Information and Broadcasting (I&B) accepted ESG’s request for such a slot earlier this month.
According to Wagh, the decor work for IFFI will be completed by Tuesday. Elucidating details, he says, there will be two stages constructed in Panjim, one on the promenade, second within the Inox courtyard where the open forum will be held during the day and cultural programmes at night.
The temporary hangar being built in Kala Academy will host five programmes while another five will be held in Ravindra Bhavan open air in Margao. 60 programmes will be held in Panjim during IFFI 2013, says Wagh.
Jaya Bachchan and Rohit Shetty will attend IFFI 2013 while Amitabh Bachchan and Sonakshi Sinha have still to confirm their attendance. Shetty may also be felicitated at the film festival for his projection of the State through his films.
