PANJIM: Mangor Hill continues to add cases to Goa’s COVID tally with another 26 cases reported on Friday, which includes six health care workers posted in the area. Total cases reported on Friday as per the Health Bulletin are 30.
With Friday’s addition, Mangor’s tally is now 108 cases and the State’s active cases are 131. There were also eight recoveries reported on Friday. The health bulletin further says that the tally of Goa is 196 with 131 active and 65 recoveries.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that Goans need not panic as 10 are symptomatic and rest are asymptomatic. “Positive cases in Goa are recovering within eight days. While some patients are given some medicines, some patients are treated by only keeping in isolation and they get herd immunity,” he says.
The CM also said that the State has carried out around 25,500 tests so far. “Every person arriving in the State is being tested. Even in Mangor we will conduct 100 per cent tests. The transmission there is just in one ward and hence there is no need of any lockdown in entire Vasco,” he said.
Sawant stated that all 350 families in Mangor are being given free ration for eight days besides other essential items are being provided at cost price.
Replying to a query on the rising cases and limited beds numbering 220 in Covid hospital, the Chief Minister said that the Health Department has made provision at the COVID hospital and elsewhere in case of rise in cases. “We are also taking steps for another COVID hospital, if need arises. However, I still say Goa is still in local transmission stage and not community transmission,” Sawant said.
The Chief Minister was also critical of the Dubai passengers who did not want to go into paid institutional quarantine on June 1. “Around four more of these passengers have tested positive, taking the total of positive to six from the Dubai flight. These people unnecessarily created a ruckus on that night. They must understand that if they were sent home, as they fought for, they would have infected their family members,” he stated.
Asked about the Calangute lady entering without being checked at borders, he again said it was human error. “Almost 3,000 persons come every day and there is the possibility of someone sneaking in. It was a human error,” he said.
On demands of closure of borders, he said, those coming are mostly Goans and he cannot restrict anyone coming in the State. Further, discussing the State economy, he said, the Government expenditure is being controlled. “State is taking several economic measures, which will be revealed by Wednesday,” he said.
