VASCO: The newly elected Panch members in all six Panchayats (excluding Sancoale) under Mormugao taluka have almost finalised the names of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch in their respective villages.
Though the Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim (CAC) has no reservation for sarpanch post, however Iron lady Martha Saldanha who made a clean sweep in the recently held election is likely to be the next sarpanch, while Ferwin Saldanha who represents ward number 2 is the front runner for deputy sarpanch.
The newly elected members from Velsao-Pale-Issorcim (VPI) Panchayat have also decided and finalized the names of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch whom they would elect on Monday. Sources in the panchayat informed that former sarpanch Henrique D’Mello who had contested on panel floated by Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) is most likely to get elected as sarpanch while Sylvia D’Souza would be the deputy sarpanch.
The newly formed Quelossim Panchayat, which consists of all new faces, has sarpanch post reserved for women, hence, the members have almost finalised Maria Colaco as the next sarpanch while Sebastiao Serrao is most likely to be elected as deputy sarpanch.
Even the Cortalim Panchayat has reserved post for sarpanch for next five years. The newly elected panchayat members who consist of more new faces have now decided and finalised to elect Sania Barreto as new sarpanch, while Raymond Desa who won the elections for third time and is presently holding the post of Goa Barge Owners Association (GBOA) president is most likely to get elected as deputy sarpanch.
In Chicalim, to chose sarpanch and deputy sarpanch was not an easy affair for the newly elected members which consists of several new faces. However, after a lot of discussion among the members, it has been decided that Sebastiao Pereira who is close to Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho would be Sarpanch while another strong supporter of Godinho, Kamla Prasad Yadav who has the support of five panch members would take charge as deputy sarpanch after formal election that would be held on Monday.
At Chicolna-Bogmalo Panchayat also the sarpanch post is reserved for women, hence, the newly elected members have almost decided to elect Virginia Rodrigues as sarpanch while former sarpanch Laxman Kavlekar is the front runner for the post of deputy sarpanch.
Interestingly, most of the elected members who are all prepared to form ruling panel in their respective panchayats are now keen to work under the guidance and support of local MLAs with the aim to serve the people better and to take developmental projects without any hindrance.
