MERCES: Socorina Braganza was elected unopposed as Merces sarpanch. Panchas present for the election were Walter D’Souza, Prakash Naik, Assis Fernandes, Yatin Palyekar, Priyanka P Naik of the ruling panel and Girish Uskaikar and Hemangi Goltekar. Three panchas remained absent.
The election was postponed twice by the government without giving any reasons.
After the election, Socorina Braganza thanked the ruling panchas for having faith in her and giving her the opportunity to occupy the post. She said as the village is facing garbage issue, she would employ more labourers to keep the village clean.
