PORVORIM: The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is yet to hand over the new Panchayat Ghar complex to the Socorro Panchayat.
It may be recalled that the foundation stone for the Socorro Panchayat Ghar was laid on June 18, 2010, and the work was expected to be completed within 18 months. It is nearly 3 years now that the work of the complex is going on.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte had visited the Socorro Panchayat Ghar on January 11, 2014, and conducted a site inspection of the building along with the engineers of GSIDC, who had then claimed that nearly 95 per cent work of the complex has been completed and had assured to hand over the project to Socorro Panchayat by January 20, 2014. The panchayat had accordingly made plans to shift to the new premises by January 26.
Socorro panchas stated that GSIDC officials visited the Panchayat Ghar complex on Thursday and explained about the electrical fixtures, etc, but did not hand over the keys to the panchayat. “GSIDC had assured the panchayat that the complex would be handed over within a week’s time,” said a panch member.
