PONDA: In a noteworthy collaboration to address climate change, the City University of New York (CUNY) and the Bronx Community College (BCC) have successfully installed a solar-powered automatic weather station at the Goa Engineering College (GEC) campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Farmagudi.
The newly installed weather station allows IIT-Goa to automatically share the received climate data with stakeholders through online platforms and smartphone apps, providing easy access to valuable information for anyone interested.
The installation ceremony, supported by funding from the U.S. Consulate, saw the participation of key figures such as Professor Neal Phillip, chairperson of Bronx Community College’s department of chemistry, earth sciences, and environmental sciences, and Professor Paramita Sen from the same department. Bronx Community College students, along with professor delegates from Bronx Community College and City University of New York, graced the event, emphasizing the significance of international collaboration in the fight against climate change.
Also present were Kashyap Pandya, senior media advisor from the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai, IIT-Goa director B.K. Mishra, Professor Sharad Sinha, and a delegation of students and professors from the Goa Engineering College.
The project aims to combat climate change by closely monitoring weather patterns and other environmental factors. Apart from weather data, the newly installed weather stations will also play a vital role in monitoring air quality and soil moisture in the region.
